In 2018 we obtained a historic vintage in Bodega Garzón, achieving a perfect ripeness in our terroir, allowing the elaboration of truly unique wines. This was the result of climate factors that had a positive impact in the ripening of the grapes. A historic harvest and an aging that had an excellent evolution resulted in complex, elegant and top quality wines that will continue conquering the world’s main markets, and that have already obtained the following awards:
Albariño Single Vineyard 2018 – 94 points – James Suckling
Marselan Reserva 2018 – 93 points – James Suckling
Albariño Reserva 2018 – Silver International Virtus – 92 points James Suckling – Silver Decanter World Wine Awards
Sauvignon Blanc 2018 – 93 points Best Sauvignon Blanc Descorchados – 92 points James Suckling – Bronze – Decanter World Wine Awards.
Pinot Noir Rosé 2018 – Silver – Decanter World Wine Awards – 92 points / Best Rosé – Descorchados.
Following a winter of relatively mild temperatures, the beginning of the vine’s vegetative cycle started approximately two weeks early, having a direct influence on the evolution of grapes, achieving a better ripening with a significant impact in the level of tannins (mainly seed tannins).
Also, during spring and until early summer, the rainfall levels were within the expected values, enabling a proper development of the canopy. As of January, rainfall decreased in comparison to historical values, causing a severe water shortage that was countered by the use of drip irrigation in the entire surface of the vineyard, ensuring its proper development.
After a season of scarce rainfall, the veraison occurred uniformly, which is really important for the plant to use all its energy for the development of the grape, prioritizing the ripening over the growth of the leaf area.
Thanks to colder nights, we obtained a vibrant and elegant Albariño 2018. Pinot Noir Rosé outstands for its perfect balance between sugar and acidity, so rosé wines 2018 will be most fresh and energetic wines to date. The Tannat harvest offered grapes with an optimum level of tannins, which will lead to exquisitely balanced wines.
