Bodega Garzón Introduces Balasto 2022

Bodega Garzón has released the 2022 vintage of Balasto, its flagship wine and one of the most renowned expressions of Uruguayan terroir worldwide. The wine’s name refers to balasto, the distinctive weathered granite soil on which Garzón’s vineyards are planted. This soil is known for its excellent drainage and mineral character, ideal for providing complexity, energy, and vibrancy to this iconic wine.

Produced in Garzón, Uruguay, just 18 km from the Atlantic Ocean, Balasto 2022 is a blend of 45% Tannat, 35% Petit Verdot, and 20% Cabernet Franc. It was fermented in 80 HL concrete tulip-shaped vats and aged for 20 months in untoasted French oak casks of 25 and 50 HL. The wine was bottled unfiltered in June 2024 under the guidance of Italian consulting winemaker Alberto Antonini and winemaker Germán Bruzzone.

Deep purple in color, this wine offers a fresh and intense nose with notes of black fruit, spices, and graphite, complemented by a subtle balsamic hint. On the palate, it is complex and mineral, with vibrant acidity and polished tannins, characteristics that reflect an authentic expression of the Garzón terroir. It has 14% alcohol, 2.9 g/L residual sugar, and an acidity of 5.9 g/L.

Balasto 2022 is now available through the Bodega Garzón online store, selected restaurants and retail outlets, as well as through its international distributors.
