Garzón’s Tannat: Paladar Cozinha winner

On September 20 and 21, the eight Paladaz Cozinha do Brasil contest took place in São Paulo. There, in the blind tasting of 12 South American wines, Bodega Garzón’s Tannat won the first prize.

pcdob-chefs-paladar500cThis eight edition of one of the most important enogastronomic events of the Southern Cone brought together over 6.500 participants. At the end of the first day, under the watchful eyes of gourmets and connoisseurs, the blind tasting took place. The aim was to value the 12 red grapes from a purely organoleptic viewpoint.

This method seeks an honest evaluation, leaving aside external information and allowing the taster to focus on what really matters: the wine itself. In this way, a fair evaluation is achieved, free from preconceptions on account of the label.

The blind tasting was organized by Eduardo Milan (ADEGA Magazine) and Marcel Miwa (journalist from the Wines from Paladar Cozinha section), two local well-known people in the wine industry, who selected 12 varieties of red grape among labels from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.

Noteworthy is the fact that the decision-makers selected only varietal wines, produced from only one grape variety or a mix in which at least one variety intervenes in a proportion of at least 85%. The labels and tasting order were the following:

    1. Morandé Pionero Pinot Noir – Chile R###dolar### 38 (imported by Grand Cru)

    1. Lovara Cabernet Sauvignon – Brasil R###dolar### 23 (distributed by Cantu)

    1. Colonia Las Liebres Bonarda – Argentina R###dolar### 43 (imported by World Wine)

    1. Pizzato Merlot Reserva – Brazil R###dolar### 50 (Vinícola Pizzato)

    1. Alto das Figueiras Merlot – Brasil R###dolar### 50 (Bodega Czarnobay)

    1. De Martino 347 Syrah – Chile R###dolar### 55,60 (imported by Decanter)

    1. Narbona Puerto Carmelo Tannat – Uruguay R###dolar### 45 (imported by Devinum)

    1. Don Pascual Reserva Tannat – Uruguay R###dolar### 44,90 (imported by Interfood)

    1. Garzón Tannat – Uruguay R###dolar### 55 (imported by World Wine)

    1. Lagar de Bezana Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva – Chile R###dolar### 55 (imported by Magnum)

    1. Zorzal Terroir Unico Malbec – Argentina R###dolar### 55 (imported by Grand Cru)

    1. Punta de Flechas Malbec – Argentina R###dolar### 58 (imported by Zahil)

A product of our terroir’s quality and its proximity to the ocean, Bodega Garzón’s Tannat, produced by the Argentinean company Bodega Garzón, is the only red wine in Uruguay supervised by the Italian winemaker Alberto Antonini. The wine chosen by the majority exhibited, among other features, “an exuberant fruity aroma with toasted vanilla touches” as well as very polished tannins that leave behind the features of previous Tannat harvests, something that struck most participants.

When we think about the result we have achieved in Brazil, it is tempting to invite you for a walk around Maldonado, route 9, kilometer 175. Come to Bodega Garzón and enjoy an unforgettable sunset with a glass of Tannat in your hand and live music.
