Close to the Uruguayan coast at 160 metres above sea level, the vinyard was planted in a privileged terroir that grants our grapes a unique and unrepeatable character. Besides, a mild climate, the influences of the constant breezes from the Atlantic Ocean and the organic activities developed in the plantations allow reflecting the genuine character of Garzón's terroir on each wine.
The geological features of the Garzón area are based on the crystalline basement that originated the oldest soils in the planet more than 2.5 billion years ago. When these rocks are altered and ground with the passing of time, they form a soft weathered-rock soil with excellent drainage and permeability qualities known as ballast.
Ballast hills have multiple minerals that are absorbed by deep vineroots. They give such different qualities as minerality, vibrancy, energy, complexity, elegance and stability. Those are the distinct features that make Garzón a very appropriate place for the specialized viticulture.
Sharing the same fresh climate latitude with Chile, South Africa, the south of Australia and New Zealand, our vineyard is in the ideal position to produce elegant world-class high-quality wines.
Counselled by international oenologist Alberto Antonini and helped by the work of local oenologist Germán Bruzzone and agricultural engineer Eduardo Felix, we have been able to express our philosophy. It is based on our quality commitment and is the origin for the premium wines elaboration, which embody the utmost expression of a unique terroir.
Our vineyards represent the dream of any vine grower. They are more than a thousand different plots of land distributed in 220 hectares, all of which have their own microclimate, are facing different points and have varied humidity levels, solar exposures and soil characteristics. These aspects create small unequal vineyards with a big biodiversity. They include native forests, natural palm trees, big rocks, lakes and a complex fauna, which make Garzón wines a unique product.
The production of our wines meets the highest quality standards. We use cutting-edge equipment that grants the utmost grape care and the grains' optical selection.
Very careful methods are used for the fermentation. We use "living" containers, such as concrete and wood, for the long-lasting ageing in barrels. However, so as to give complexity to our products, we are not interested in toasting. These containers are optimal for a proper maturation; concrete grants the development and preservation of indigenous microbiology and microorganisms, whereas wood allows wine to breathe, which is necessary for winery preservation.
Garzón wines are the result of a family dream. It has now become the most emblematic modern viticulture winery in Uruguay and offers wines with an intense personality and a deep earth's sense of belonging.
We invite you to discover our wine store and to enjoy these exclusive Uruguayan wines.
