Launch of Balasto 2022 in the United States: a new milestone in the alliance between Bodega Garzón and Winebow.

Montevideo / New York, October 2025 — The first shipment of Garzón Balasto 2022 has officially arrived in the United States, marking a new chapter in the partnership between Bodega Garzón and Winebow, which will be responsible for launching the iconic Uruguayan wine’s latest vintage in the North American market.

Renowned for its elegance and distinctive character, Balasto 2022 has just received 95 points from Wine Enthusiast, one of the most prestigious publications in the wine industry.

Wine Enthusiast’s Writer at Large, Jesica Vargas, praised its origin and sophisticated sensory profile:

“Nestled among the rolling hills of Uruguay’s Maldonado wine region, the vines benefit from refreshing sea breezes. This blend reveals a delicate bouquet of flowers and cherries accented by a touch of pink pepper. On the palate, there is a sense of tension, with finely grained tannins and vibrant acidity enhancing its elegant fruit profile. A remarkable expression that showcases the potential of wines from this region.”

A celebration in New York.

The official launch of Balasto 2022 took place on October 20 at an exclusive evening held at La Boca, Francis Mallmann’s new restaurant at the Faena Hotel in Manhattan.

A select group of journalists and representatives from Winebow’s top accounts joined Bodega Garzón Managing Director, Christian Wylie, and Winemaker, Germán Bruzzone, for a five-course dinner. The experience was led by Jesica Vargas, who conducted a vertical tasting of four Balasto vintages: 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022.

About Balasto 2022.

The name Balasto comes from the type of soil where Garzón’s vines grow. This terrain belongs to the Crystalline Basement, a geological formation over 2.5 billion years old, composed of decomposed granite rocks that have given rise to thin, rocky, and well-drained soils.

These unique conditions lend the wines great vitality, complexity, and elegance—qualities that make Balasto one of the purest expressions of Uruguay’s terroir.

Balasto is part of the select group of wines traded through La Place de Bordeaux, a distinction reserved for exceptional labels from around the world. Produced only in the best vintages and from the highest-quality grapes, Balasto has earned its place among South America’s most coveted wines.
