A formal ceremony was held on Saturday 12th March, the third consecutive day of events to celebrate the opening of Bodega Garzón. This destination is clearly a must for lovers of good wine and architecture, or for those travelling to the region who crave an unforgettable experience during their visit.
This venture dates back to 1999, when Engineer Alejandro Bulgheroni and his wife Bettina discovered their “little Tuscany in Uruguay” and began crafting a family dream which is now a reality.
Opening a one-of-a-kind-winery in Uruguay
It is worth noting that this impressive building, which makes Bodega Garzón a one-of-a-kind winery in our country and has also positioned Uruguay as a producer of premium wines, is undoubtedly one of the most important investments in the country in the last few years. This is why we had the honour and privilege to welcome distinguished guests at the opening, such as three former Presidents of Uruguay: Dr. Luis Alberto Lacalle, Dr. Julio Maria Sanguinetti, and José Mujica, and former President of Spain, José María Aznar.
Vice President Raúl Sendic, who was also in attendance, briefly addressed the audience to stress the significance of this project and joined Engineer Alejandro Bulgheroni, his wife and children in cutting the ribbon.
The ceremony was also attended by Cardinal Daniel Sturla, who blessed the winery
Imprinted in this striking building is our clear vision to propose a paradigm shift that will set a new standard for the region, always seeking the greatest quality, while also being highly respectful of the environment and managing to turn this intervention into a tool for integration.
First LEED-certified winery
This building is set to make Bodega Garzón the first sustainable winery built outside North America to receive the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, meeting the strict requirements of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), which consist of a set of standards on sustainable building strategies.
One of the varietal wines currently produced in our winery is Tannat, a Uruguayan classic, but we also offer a great variety of white wines, such as Albariño, Pinot Gris, Viognier, or Sauvignon Blanc, and a rosé variety, Pinot Noir Rosé.
Bodega Garzón is now open: a one-of-a-kind place in the country, which invites visitors to enjoy an exclusive menu in our restaurant, with a breathtaking view of our vineyards, as well as unforgettable experiences including tours and tasting of some of our leading products.
